Toronto police are investigating a homicide after responding to a call in the St. Clair Avenue West and Rushton Road area on the morning of Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at approximately 8:21 a.m.
According to authorities, officers arrived at an apartment building where they discovered a woman deceased inside a unit. A post-mortem examination was later completed, and the death has been ruled a homicide.
The victim has been identified as 79-year-old Jolan Kun of Toronto. This case marks the city’s 38th homicide of 2025.
Update: On Saturday, January 24, 2026, police carried out a Criminal Code search warrant that led to the arrest of Ashton Drysdale, 38, of Toronto.
Drysdale has been charged with first-degree murder, along with numerous firearms-, probation-, and drug-related offences. These include possessing firearms without a licence, possessing firearms and ammunition while prohibited, having a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and knowingly possessing unauthorized firearms, devices, and ammunition. He also faces two counts related to the careless storage of firearms or ammunition.
Additional charges include possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, multiple counts of breaching a probation order through firearm or ammunition possession, and ten counts of possessing a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.
According to the Toronto Star, Correctional Services Canada warned that Ashton Drysdale posed a significant risk before his statutory release in August 2024 and pushed for strict conditions, including living in a supervised residential facility and closely monitored relationships with women. The Parole Board agreed, citing his long history of violent crime and concerns he could not be safely managed in the community.
Despite those measures, Drysdale later went unlawfully at large and is now charged with first-degree murder in the death of 79-year-old Toronto woman Jolan Kun. The Star reports that CSC has launched a review to examine how the case was handled while he was under supervision.
Kaream Hines, 38 was also arrested in January.
On Monday, June, 8, 2026, Andrew Christopher Matthews, 39, of Peterborough, was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder. He is also known as Andrew Christopher Chesson.
