Prince Albert 2026 Homicide Victim List
Jim Primeau, 57, has died from injuries he suffered in a shooting at his Prince Albert rental property on June 4, 2025.
The incident occurred the same day an evicted tenant returned to the home to collect her belongings. Earlier that year, according to reports, his sister Peggy Epp said the tenant had approached Primeau looking for a place to live but could not afford the full rent. Primeau agreed to let her move in at a reduced rate, accepting half a month’s rent. However, the arrangement broke down when the tenant allegedly stopped paying rent for three months.
Primeau followed the legal eviction process and obtained an order through the Office of Residential Tenancies. The tenant was formally served notice and permitted to return to the property on June 4 to retrieve her possessions.
That evening, around 6:45 p.m., police were called to a home in the 1900 block of 14th Street West, where they found Primeau in the backyard suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided first aid before paramedics transported him to hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators later determined the suspect had fled the scene on a bicycle. Police arrested 24-year-old Preston Bird in connection with the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault, breaching a conditional sentence order, and several firearms-related offences.
Primeau survived the initial attack but suffered a severe spinal cord injury and remained hospitalized. He was placed in a medically induced coma for four days and never recovered enough to return home. According to Epp, he “fought every day” before ultimately dying from his injuries on March 18, 2026.
It remains unclear whether the charges against Bird will be upgraded following Primeau’s death.
