Skeletal human remains discovered in a wooded area in south Barrie last month have been identified as William “Blake” Robinson, one of two victims in a 2025 double homicide, police have confirmed.

The remains were discovered at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, near Anne Street South and Tiffin Street. The location is close to a former encampment that was the scene of a major police investigation following the deaths of Robinson and 41-year-old David Cheesequay last summer.

When officers responded to the area after the discovery, they determined that the remains were human. The Barrie Police Major Crime Unit took over the investigation, and the remains were sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences for identification.

At the time, police cautioned against drawing conclusions about the discovery. Although the remains were found near the location connected to last summer’s double homicide, investigators initially treated the case as a separate incident while they worked to determine the identity and circumstances surrounding the remains.

The Ontario Provincial Police Urban Containment Rescue Team was also brought in to assist with a search of the nearby water for potential additional evidence. Police maintained the scene while the search was underway.

The investigation has now confirmed that the remains belong to Robinson, who was 45 years old at the time of his death.

The identification comes as an individual arrested last summer remains in custody in connection with the deaths and dismemberment of Robinson and Cheesequay. The accused is facing several criminal charges related to the 2025 double homicide.

Barrie Police have said they remain committed to keeping the public informed and will provide additional details as they become available.
