Update: Jamal Chemin & Sorossa Moude charged with murder – Hamilton Homicide #2 – Police investigating a fatal shooting of Giorgio Barresi on Portofino Place in Stoney Creek

Hamilton police responded to reports of shots fired on March 2nd at approximately 10:45pm in the area of Portofino Place in Stoney Creek.

Police and paramedics located a 42-year-old man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, on the driveway of his home. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced at the scene. Hamilton police have identified the deceased as 42-year-old Giorgio Barresi of Hamilton.

Police said he was confronted in his driveway by a single suspect and was shot multiple times. Giorgio succumbed to his injuries almost immediately.

Initial information showed historical ties between Giorgio Barresi and the Musitano traditional organized crime group. This investigation involved over 50 Judicial Authorizations and was part of Project Skyfall through 2020-2021. 

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Major Crime and Forensics Units. Hamilton police will be offering an update in the afternoon of March 3rd.

Update March 5th
Police believe a four-door sedan and possibly multiple suspects were involved.

Update April 29th
Hamilton police release surveillance video of the suspect in hopes of identifying the shooter. The video can be viewed HERE.

Update September 5th 2023,

On September 1, 2023, after an intensive investigation, the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit laid first-degree murder charges on two Toronto individuals.  

Charged:

  • Jamal Chemin, 41-years-old from Toronto
  • Sorossa Moude, 27-years-old from Toronto

Although investigators believe these two individuals are involved in this homicide, police continue to urge anyone with additional information to come forward to speak with police.
