Hamilton Homicide #11 – Shaun Chiasson arrested after an adult female was found deceased in an apartment

Hamilton police responded to a report of a male needing medical attention in the area of King Street East and Sherman Avenue on September 21st at approximately 9:10pm.

Police attended the scene and recognized the man as 39-year-old Shaun Chiasson, a person they had dealt with earlier in a nearby building. Police began an investigation into how Chiasson received the injuries, and attended the building where he resides. Upon arrival police located an adult female suffering from obvious signs of trauma. She was pronounced at the scene. The cause of death and the victim’s identity has not been released at this time.

Police said Chiasson remains hospitalized but was arrested for the Second Degree murder of the female found deceased in his apartment.

Update September 24th
Hamilton police have identified the victim as 20-year-old Amy Hager. Amy and Shaun were in a relationship and lived together in the apartment where her body was discovered at 907 King Street East on Monday night. Shaun Chiasson has been charged with second-degree murder.

Update
Chiasson pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter in June 2023. According to reports Amy Hager was stabbed 28 times and cut a further 36 times by Shaun Chiasson.

The Crown is seeking a 10-year sentence. After credit for time served in custody, the balance is five years, one month and seven days.

Chiasson is scheduled back in court Dec. 22 for sentencing.
