Calgary Police Officer Faces Two Second-Degree Murder Charges in Connection to 2023 Incident

On July 14, 2025, a Calgary Police Service officer was charged with two counts of second-degree murder following an ASIRT investigation into a shooting involving police that occurred on May 29, 2023. The officer, who is currently on leave, faces serious charges that have affected public trust in the CPS, particularly among Indigenous communities.

The CPS acknowledged the gravity of the situation, expressed condolences to the victims’ families, and emphasized their commitment to learning from the incident. Following the shooting, media identified the two victims as 46-year-old Wesley Davidson and 39-year-old Levon Boyce Fox. A third individual who was also in the van was not injured and was taken into custody.
