Quebec City, 2026 Homicide Victim List
On Saturday evening, January 6, a fire broke out shortly after 6:40 p.m. in a second-floor apartment on Saint-Mathias Street in Quebec City’s Saint-Sauveur neighbourhood.
Inside, firefighters found Ahmed Yassir Ismaili-Alaoui, a 42-year-old man of Moroccan origin, unconscious in his bedroom. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead later that night.
Police confirmed on Tuesday, January 9, that an autopsy determined that Ismaili-Alaoui was murdered and that the fire was deliberately set, though it was not the cause of death.
The case represents Quebec City’s first homicide of the year. Authorities say the victim was not known to police and the crime does not appear linked to organized crime.
