Kamloops fire department were alerted of a suspicious fire off Mission Flats Road, along the shoreline of the Thompson River and near the entrance to the City of Kamloops landfill on October 1st. On arrival fire crews located the body of a man and contacted police.

The victim has been identified as Adam Hibbert, 29, of Kamloops. Sgt. Nestor Baird said “We do know this was not a random event and there is no risk to the public.”

Update: On Thursday, September 18, 2025, two men were formally charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of Adam Hibbert. The charges come after an intensive police investigation that spanned nearly four years, ultimately leading to the arrests of Tristan Bris Fernandez and Robert Lloyd Sedore. Fernandez was already in custody on an unrelated matter, while Sedore was recently arrested and is also being held.

“This was an extensive and complex investigation that required a high level of commitment, collaboration, and determination,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Kamloops RCMP Detachment Officer in Charge.  “Over the course of this investigation, our members worked tirelessly, often under challenging circumstances, to gather evidence, follow up investigative material, and ensure that every aspect of the case was thoroughly examined.  Their dedication reflects the professionalism and perseverance of our investigators.”

The Officer in Charge further stated, “While we cannot speak to the details as these matters are before the courts, I want to acknowledge the significant effort that has gone into bringing the investigation to this stage. The work of our investigators demonstrates our commitment to ensuring public safety, supporting victims and their families, and holding individuals accountable through the justice system.”

With charges now laid, the case will move forward through the court system. Authorities have stated that no additional information will be released at this time.
