RCMP said the investigation began on February 4, when emergency crews responded to a grass fire south of Eden Valley, roughly 100 kilometres southwest of Calgary. Once the fire was extinguished, investigators discovered a burned vehicle containing human remains.

The remains were later identified as those of 24-year-old Calgary man Frans Faras.

After a months-long investigation, RCMP announced that 37-year-old Vance Pidborochynski and 30-year-old Shelby Filkowski, both from Lethbridge, had been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Faras’s death.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather information surrounding the circumstances of his death.
