A woman from West Kelowna has been handed a 10-year prison sentence after admitting to manslaughter in connection with the death of her boyfriend in August 2022, the B.C. Prosecution Service confirmed. Ka-Mikosit Favelle struck Adam Briand-Lawrence with a car back in August in 2022

The sentence was delivered on April 1 and exceeds the seven-year term that had been recommended by the Crown.

Court proceedings previously revealed that Ka-Mikosit Favelle and her then-boyfriend, Adam Briand-Lawrence, were involved in an argument while she was driving. During the dispute, Briand-Lawrence exited the vehicle, and Favelle initially continued on.

She later turned the vehicle around and drove back in his direction, reaching speeds of about 95 km/h along a winding residential street in West Kelowna. Although she attempted to veer away, she struck him, resulting in his death.

Favelle was originally charged with second-degree murder in 2023, but later pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of manslaughter.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a 10-year prohibition on firearms and weapons, along with an order requiring her to provide a DNA sample.
