Halifax police were called to Geary Street in Dartmouth after receiving a report that a man had been assaulted by a woman on December 22, 2024.

Paramedics attended the scene, but the man refused both medical treatment and any further involvement with police.

A few days later, on December 26 at around 4:20 p.m., police were again called to the Geary Street area, where they found the same man deceased inside a tent. He was later identified as 56-year-old Jeffrey Alexander Emmerson.

Last week, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner informed police that the autopsy determined Emmerson’s death was a homicide.

The case is currently under investigation by the HRP/RCMP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division.

Police are looking to identify the woman involved in the earlier assault. She is described as white, between 20 and 25 years old, approximately 4’10” tall, with a medium build, shoulder-length dark hair, and was last seen wearing a blue jacket and red sweatpants.
