Bonnyville RCMP responded to a complaint of a shooting on Kehewin Cree Nation on March 9th at approximately 7:15pm.

Police arrived to find a 54-year-old male from Kehewin Cree Nation, deceased at the scene. Police have not released the victim’s identity at this time.

RCMP said in a press release “The confrontation on March 9, 2022, between RCMP and 22-year-old suspect on Kehewin Cree Nation during which officers discharged their service weapons is in relation to this investigation.”

A 22-year-old suspect has been identified and is in hospital receiving medical treatment. Alberta Major Crimes Unit has taken carriage of the homicide investigation.

Update March 17th
Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested Tristyn Trey Badger, 22, and charged him with Second degree murder. Badger is scheduled to appear in court on March 22, 2022 in Bonnyville.
