York Region Paramedic Services and Markham Fire and Emergency Services were called to a residence on Bur Oak Avenue for a report of a fire on May 17th at approximately 10:00am.
Emergency crews arrived to find a 6-year-old boy, a 14-year-old boy, and their mother, a 41-year-old woman, suffering from serious injuries. They were all taken to hospital.
A 12-year-old boy who was unaccounted for, was located deceased inside the home two days later. The Father was not home at the time of the incident.
On July 22, 2020, the six-year-old boy died in hospital of his injuries.
investigation with the Office of the Fire Marshall, the fire has been deemed suspicious. As a result, the York Regional Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police Homicide Unit at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865.
Update September 29th 2021
York Regional Police Homicide Unit have concluded their investigation into a fire that killed two children at a residence in the City of Markham. This fire has been deemed accidental and no charges have been laid.
