Waterloo Regional Police have charged a youth in relation to the shooting death of an 86-year-old earlier this year

On March 31, 2023, Waterloo Regional Police responded to reports of a shooting incident in the area of Township Road 50 and Letson Drive in Woolwich Township that resulted in injuries to an 86-year-old male.

The initial investigation determined that a youth had discharged a firearm toward a residence where the victim was struck. The male youth was initially charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm, Careless Use of a Firearm, and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

On June 22, 2023, the 86-year-old male victim died as a result of his injuries.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, and in consultation with the Crown Attorney, on October 5, 2023, the charge of Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm against the accused was upgraded to Criminal Negligence Causing Death.

Police announced on October 6th that the investigation is now classified as a homicide.
