Vancouver police were called to the Gastown Hotel, a single-room-occupancy building, on January 31st at approximately 5:30am.

On arrival police located two stabbing victims, a 40-year-old man from Vancouver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second victim, a 28-year-old Vancouver man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The identity of the deceased has not been released.

Police said a 48-year-old Vancouver man was arrested nearby and remains in custody.
