Toronto police responded to an assault in the Brunswick Avenue and Harbord Street area on December 22, 2019, at 2:18 p.m.

On arrival emergency crews located 51-year-old Julie Berman suffering from a serious injury to the head. She was rushed to hospital where she died of her injuries. Bergman was an advocate for transgender rights and a strong voice against the violence that impacts the trans community.

Police said it is alleged that two people were inside a residence when the victim received injuries to her head. Colin Harnack, 29, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder.
