Surrey, British Columbia 2026 Homicide Victim List

Surrey police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this week and may be linked to a nearby vehicle fire.

Around 12:05 p.m. on January 13, 2026, officers with the Surrey Police Service responded to reports of a man found lying near the roadway in the 3500 block of 176 Street. When police arrived, they discovered 46-year-old Baljinder “Binder” Singh Garcha had suffered apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Earlier that same day, just after 11:00 a.m., police were called to a vehicle fire in the 18900 block of 40th Street in Surrey. Investigators believe the burned vehicle is connected to the homicide, though the investigation remains in its early stages.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the case and is working closely with Surrey Police. IHIT is also collaborating with the BC Coroners Service and the Lower Mainland District Forensic Identification Service as they carry out priority investigative steps.

According to IHIT spokesperson Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi, investigators do not believe the killing is connected to the ongoing B.C. gang conflict.

“This investigation is still in its early stages,” Dhesi said, adding that police are working to determine what led to Garcha’s death and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Investigators are asking the public to review any CCTV or dash camera footage that may be relevant. They are particularly interested in footage from the 18900 block of 40th Street between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., as well as from the 3500 block of 176 Street between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on January 13, 2026.
