- Niagara on the Lake: Niagara uniform officers were called to the area of Lundy’s Lane and Corwin Ave following the report of a suspected impaired driver on January 5th at approximately 1:30pm. Police located the vehicle in the area of Line 3 and the Niagara River Parkway in the Town of Niagara on the Lake at 2:22pm. According to Niagara Regional Police Service there was an interaction with an adult male and he was subsequently shot by police. The Man was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Ontario Special Investigations Unit is investigating.
2. Vancouver: 37-year-old man allegedly smashed the window to his room at a residential building near Princess Avenue and Hastings Street on January 5th at approximately 5:00am. According to reports, the man was throwing large wooden objects out of the window onto the street. Constable Tania Visintin, VPD said “Before police arrived, the man had left his residence and went to the street with a weapon in his hand. Reports came in that this man was chasing people with the weapon and using it in an aggressive and threatening manner. The man was subsequently shot by police.” The Independent Investigations Office is investigating.
4 . Toronto: Ontario’s police watchdog says it is investigating the fatal shooting downtown of a man by Toronto Police while investigating a missing person case at Toronto Community Housing apartment building at 291 George St., in the Jarvis St. and Dundas St. E. According to reports, there were reports of a man with a gun and Emergency Task Force officers “engaged with a man.”
5. Headingley: William Walter Ahmo, 45, died following an incident involving corrections officers at Headingley Correctional Institution On February 7th.
6. Calgary police were called to the Nuvo Hotel shortly after 4 p.m. on March 3rd for a complaint of a person with a gun. CPS said that a confrontation occurred between officers and the individual that led to the officer-involved shooting. The person died as a result of the confrontation. No officers were injured.
