Peel police were called to the home in the area of Deerpark Crescent and Fairglen Avenue on July 28th at approximately 2:28pm.
On arrival police located a man and a woman inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene and the man was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Police said the couple were both in their 20s and were in a relationship. The man lived at the home with his family, and the woman was visiting. The identity of the victim has not been released. Police said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident.
Update August 1st
Police have identified the injured male as Darnell Reid, 27, and the female has been identified as Darian Hailey Henderson-Bellman, 25. The victim and the accused had been in a relationship for approximately three years. Darnell Reid and charge him with second-degree murder, possession of a loaded firearm, and failure to comply with a release order.
According to the Peel police report in May 2020, the accused was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm for an unrelated matter. The accused who regularly ignored his conditions of release, continued to offend by possessing illegal firearms was released back into the community after 6 days in custody with a GPS monitoring device. police said this was despite clear concerns regarding his risk to the victim, the community and the potential to continue to re-offend.
