Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of a shooting at the South Red Deer Walmart on December 20th at approximately 6:47pm.
Police said shots were fired in the entrance of the store, fatally wounding a 69-year-old Charles (Jim) Williams. The shooting is believed to be random police say the suspect then fled the scene in a stolen vehicle being operated by a female.
Police set up a Spike belt and successfully immobilized both vehicles. The female suspect remained in one of the stolen vehicles and was arrested. The male suspect fled on foot and was apprehended shortly after.
Chase Freed, 18, has been charged with Second-degree murder, attempted murder while using a firearm (x2), failure to stop while being pursued by a police officer, dangerous operation, theft of a motor vehicle.
Crystal Maurice, 30, has been charged with Accessory after the fact to murder, failure to stop while being pursued by a police officer, dangerous operation, theft of a motor vehicle.
