Mississauga Homicide Investigation: Peel Regional Police have suspended the 2022 homicide investigation into Mezhgan Aini saying they have exhausted all investigative leads

The Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau is appealing to the public for help in a homicide investigation involving a woman from Mississauga.

Mezhgan Aini, 38, also known as “Sara” or “Sarah,” lived near Queen Frederica Drive and Dundas Street East. She was last seen in June 2022, but it wasn’t until June 2025 that her family in Afghanistan reported her missing after being unable to contact her for several years.

Peel Regional Police have now classified her disappearance as a homicide and are actively investigating the case. Aini is described as 5’2” with a medium build and long, straight black hair.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity near her home between June and September 2022, or who has information about Aini or her family, to come forward.

Tips can be provided directly to the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or anonymously through Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at peelcrimestoppers.ca.

Update August 7th 2026: Peel Regional Police have suspended the homicide investigation into Mezhgan Aini saying they have exhausted all investigative leads.

Investigators believe Aini was killed and identified a suspect, but say there is not enough evidence to lay charges. Police said the three-year delay before her disappearance was reported in 2025 significantly hindered the investigation. The case will be reopened if new information comes to light.
