Two 17-year-old boys arrested – Mistissini Cree Nation, Quebec, Lockdown Lifted After Two Men Killed in Riverside Street Shooting

According to the Sûreté du Québec, police received multiple reports of gunshots around 9 p.m. on Riverside Street on January 28th.

Officers from the Eeyou Eenou Police Force responded and found two men inside a vehicle that had been riddled with bullets. Both men, who were members of the community, were transported to a local medical facility, where they were later pronounced dead. The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Bedabin Neeposh and 29-year-old Daniel Benac.

On Thursday morning, community officials placed Mistissini under lockdown as a precaution. Quebec provincial police said investigators believe the homicides may be linked to organized crime, though they stressed there is no active shooter and the incident appears to be isolated.
