St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP were dispatched to a residence in the Rural Municipality of Hanover on October 27th at 10:40pm.
On arrival, police located a 73-year-old Judy Swain, deceased in a recidence. The cause of death has not been released. RCMP requested the assistance of WPS as it was believed that the suspect had travelled to Winnipeg.
Investigation led Winnipeg police police the area of Leila Avenue and McPhillips Street at approximately 2:30pm. While en route, they received a report of a stabbing at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Police located Candyce Szkwarek in her sixties, who had been seriously injured, and emergency personnel were providing trauma first-aid. She was transported to hospital in critical condition where she remains in serious condition.
Later in the evening, RCMP attended to the 300 block of Toronto Street regarding their initial homicide investigation. An adult male in his seventies was then located deceased and believed to be the victim of a homicide. WPS Homicide Unit and the RCMP Major Crimes Services continue to investigate all three of these incidents and believe they may be related.
A male suspect was identified and arrested by Winnipeg Police Service a short time later in Winnipeg. Police said the deceased and accused were known to eachother. According to Global news he is the son of Swain and the man found dead in Winnipeg.

Update November 1st:
Trevor Robert FARLEY, 37, of Winnipeg, was arrested by police on October 30th and was charged with:
– Second Degree Murder concerning the death of Stuart FARLEY, 73, on Toronto Street in Winnipeg, occurring October 27, 2021.
– First Degree Murder concerning the death of Judy SWAIN, 73, in the community of New Bothwell, Manitoba, occurring October 27, 2021.
– Attempt Murder concerning an assault that occurred on October 27, 2021, at Seven Oaks Hospital on October 27, 2021.
Update October 18th 2023
Crown prosecutors accepted doctors’ findings that Trevor Farley did not understand what he was doing at the time of the attacks, and therefore found not criminally responsible for killing his parents and attacking a hospital employee.
