RCMP in British Columbia have arrested and charged a 17-year-old in connection with the death of a teenage girl who died from a fentanyl overdose.
Prince George RCMP officers were first called to a residence in the 7600 block of McMaster Crescent, in the College Heights area, at approximately 10 p.m. on June 26, 2024, after the teen was found unconscious inside the home.
The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was taken to hospital in Prince George for a severe reaction to the synthetic opioid. Despite medical treatment, she passed away several days later.
Her death prompted an RCMP investigation to determine where the drugs originated. As a result of that investigation, police say a youth suspect has now been charged with manslaughter.
