14-year-old Devan Selvey dies following a stabbing at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Hamilton

Hamilton Police confirm a 14-year-old Devan Selvey has died as a result of an assault at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School. The assault took place early afternoon on October 7th.

Details regarding the assault and if a weapon was used have not been released. Police will be updating media later this evening.

Major Crime has taken over the investigation. Anyone with cellphone video is asked to contact the Hamilton police at 905-546-4123.

Update
Det. Sgt. Steve Bereziuk told reporters that a 14-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, were arrested by police, and the third person who was arrested, however officers are still trying to determine their involvement. A teen boy and girl remain unaccounted for.

The victim’s mother witnessed the attack. Police also said the murder weapon, a knife, remains unaccounted for and they are asking homeowners in the area to check their property.

Update September 8th
An 18-year-old male and 14-year-old male, of Hamilton, will be charged with 1st-degree murder. They will appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse, on September 8th to answer to the charge.

Update December 13th
Three new charges have been laid against the 18-year-old suspected of stabbing Devan Selvey to death. Those charges include:

  1. Assault with a Weapon
  2. Administer Noxious Thing
  3. Possession of Prohibited Weapon
