Youth charged with the murder of Arlene Wapoose in Fort Hope

On July 8th 2020, Arlene Wapoose, 26, and an unnamed male were attacked by a 15-year-old youth. According to Inside Edition, the pair were beaten with a baseball bat before being rushed to hospital where Wapoose died of her injuries on July 12th. The male victim sustained severe injuries but is expected to survive.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Officers on the Fort Hope Reserve arrested the 15-year-old who cannot be named on July 11th and originally charged him with two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. When Wapoose died from her injuries the youth was re-arrested by police, and charged with second-degree murder.
