RCMP received a report of a suspicious occurrence north of Boston Bar near Highway 1 on August 22nd at approximately 7:45pm.
Police arrived to find a caucasian woman in her late twenties deceased at the scene. Police said it was evident that she was the victim of homicide.
Police initially arrested a suspect at the scene, but he has been released. A white 1994 Chevrolet Astro van was seized near the crime scene. Police believed the van is associated to the homicide.

Update September 6th
RCMP have identified the victim as28-year-old Amelie Christelle Sakkalis, a Belgian national travelling in Canada. Police believe Sakkalis was hitchhiking from the Penticton area on August 22, 2018 and heading to Vancouver.
Police are asking that anyone who may have provided Sakkalis with a ride between Boston Br and Penticton to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca

IHIT partner agencies arrested 27-year-old Sean McKenzie of Oliver, B.C on September 14th. McKenzie has been charged with first degree murder of Amelie Christelle Sakkalis. McKenzie has pleaded guilty to second-degree and entered his plea on Sept. 23, 2019. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 19.

Sean McKenzie of Oliver has now been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.
