Winnipeg police searching for husband after wife dies in hospital

Winnipeg police said they are searching for Wayne Leslie Melnychuk, a 42-year-old male of Winnipeg after his wife  Julie Racette, a 34-year-old female was rushed to hospital from a residence in the 500 block of Ottawa Avenue early in the day on April 11th.

Julie Racette died in hospital of undisclosed causes. An autopsy was completed and revealed the manner of death to be a homicide.

Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of Wayne Leslie Melnychuk, 42 of Winnipeg, for manslaughter. Melnychuk is listed as a missing person. He is described as Caucasian in appearance, 5’7” tall and has a medium build with brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call 911. Additional information that may assist investigators can be relayed to Homicide Unit investigators at 204-986-6508 .

Update August 19th
Winnipeg Police responded to the 600 block of Henderson Highway on August 7th on the report of partial human remains discovered on the riverbank.

An investigation has determined the remains belong to Wayne Leslie Melnychuk. Winnipeg police believe that Melnchuk entered the Red River on his own accord on or around April 12, 2020.
