Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 200 block of Garry Street, where two people were injured in a shooting on February 9th at around 3:40am.

Police said Officers located an injured adult male and provided him with emergency medical care. He was transported to hospital in stable condition. A second male was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he died of his injuries. The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 .

Update: The deceased victim has been identified as Abdulwasi AHMED, 30.

Update March 16th
Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, arrested Gunni Abdi HASSEN, a 25-year-old male of Winnipeg, and charged him with Second-Degree Murder.

Police said “Investigators believe both the accused and the deceased were associated with criminal organizations in the city. It is unknown if they knew each other at the time of the killing; however, the shooting is believed to be gang motivated.”
