Update two charged with first-degree murder: Winnipeg Homicide #16 – Police investigate the fatal shooting of Nairne Marshall James Chapais, on Selkirk Ave

Winnipeg police responded to a residence in the 700 block of Selkirk ave on the report of a shooting on May 21st at approximately 9:30am.

Police and paramedics arrived to find Nairne Marshall James Chapais, 23, suffering from obvious injuries on the stairs of the residence. Police said they believe the shooting was targeted. Const. Rob Carver wouldn’t say how many times the man was shot.

The investigation is still in its early stages. Police said that by May 21st last year there were also 16 homicides.

Update May 29
Winnipeg police located and arrested two male suspects at a hotel in the 200 block of McDermot Avenue on May 27th. Investigators believe that the homicide was premeditated and gang-related, and a firearm was recovered at the time of arrests.

Tyler Ryan Kenneth Jack, a 21, of Winnipeg has been charged with:

– First Degree Murder
– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
– Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
– Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
– Deal with Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
– Possession of a Weapon
– Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x6)

Clarence Raymon Scott, 30, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

– First Degree Murder
– Discharge a Firearm Into or At a Place in a Reckless Manner
– Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
– Possession of a Weapon
– Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
– Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
– Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine

Update June 23
On June 17, 2020, the 17-year-old male youth was located by the Red Deer RCMP at an address in Red Deer. He has been charged with First Degree Murder in relation to the homicide of Nairne Marshall James Chapais.
