Montreal police responded to the report of a shooting in the alleyway near Joliette and Hochelaga Sts., behind the Joliette métro station on January 7th at approximately 7:15 am.

Police and paramedics arrived to find Walid Meddane, 26 who had been shot several times. Meddane was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

According to journalmontreal.com, Meddane was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for the theft and very violent assault of an Uber driver committed on December 28, 2016, in Montreal. During the court proceedings, the Crown prosecutor revealed that Meddane openly displayed himself on his Facebook profile as a member of a Blue Allegiance street gang (Crips).
