Vancouver homicide #9 – VPD investigate the stabbing of Thomus Donaghy in the city’s West End

Vncouver police responded to a 911 report of a stabbing in the area of  Thurlow and Comox streets on July 27th at approximately 8:30pm.

Police and paramedics arrived to find a 41-year-old Thomus Donaghy suffering from a stab wound. The victim was rushed to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police said Donaghy was working at the Overdose Prevention site connected to St. Paul’s Hospital, when he went outside and was involved in a fistfight with an unidentified man in the area of Comox and Thurlow before the man stabbed him.

No arrests have been made at this time. Police believe this homicide was targeted and that there is no risk to the public. VPD is looking for dashcam footage from any drivers in the area of Comox and Thurlow Streets around the time of the murder. Update August 14th, 2020

Maximus Roland Hayes, 23, of Victoria was arrested by Vancouver police and has been charged with one count of manslaughter in relation to the death of Mr. Donaghy.
