Update: Officers Identified – Two South Simcoe police officers fatally shot in the line of duty in Innisfil

South Simcoe police responded to a disturbance at a home in the area of 25th Sideroad and 9th Line in the Town of Innisfil on October 11th at approximately 7:55pm.

On arrival, both officers were shot inside the home. The suspect was also shot and pronounced deceased at approximately 8:00pm. The officers were rushed to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre by emergency run where one of them died. The second officer was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre where he also died of his injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit is now investigating. York Regional Police are conducting an investigation into the details surrounding the shooting of the officers.

Update: The victims have been identified as Const. Devon Northrup, 33, Const. Morgan Russell, 54. Northrup, was a six-year member of the service assigned to the community mobilization and engagement unit. Russell, was a 33-year member of the service and a trained crisis negotiator assigned to uniform patrol. 

Update October 13th
The shooter has been identified as 23-year-old Chris Doncaster. Special Investigations Unit spokesperson Kristy Denette said the rifle used in the shooting of the officers was an SKS rifle. The weapon was recovered at the scene by investigators.
