RCMP responded to a call from emergency medical services about a body inside a truck near the First Nation on September 3rd at approximately 7:00am.

The victim has been identified as 26-year-old, Brandon Cameron.

According to reports, the major crimes unit traced the investigation back to a report at 1:21am, and another at 3:55am of an altercation at a home on Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation earlier that morning.

Police have arrested Straughn Smallchild, 22, without incident at 12:30pm and charged him with one count of second-degree. Police said a 32-year-old man has also been arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to aggravated assault in relation to the homicide.
