Mohamed Jeylani of Minnesota identified as Toronto’s first homicide of 2021

Toronto police and paramedics were called to an apartment building on Eglinton Avenue East, just west of Midland Avenue on January 13th at approximately 5:10pm.

Police located a male victim suffering from a stab wound. He was rushed to the hospital where he died of his injuries. The victim has been identified as Mohamed Jeylani, 25, of Minnesota, USA.

The suspect is described as a man, black, 5’11”, 20-25 years, with a thin build. He was wearing a dark hooded top and light-colored pants at the time. The suspect was last seen in the area of Midland Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East on January 13, 2021, at 5:11 p.m

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who has information that may assist with this investigation, including dashcam video and security surveillance images. Anyone with information to call the homicide squad at (416) 808-7400.

Update January 18th
Toronto police are asking for the public’s assistance locating Guled Mohamad, 24, of Toronto who is wanted on a warrant for Second Degree Murder.

He is believed to be armed and dangerous. If located, do not approach. Call 9-1-1 immediately.
