Toronto police responded to the report of a drive by shooting out front of 29 Patika Avenue on October 1st at approximately 9:15am.
According to police Hamdi Zakarie, 27, of Toronto, was standing outside his vehicle after putting a baby in the rear seat when unknown suspects drove past and opened fire. Zakarie was pronounced at the scene.
Investigators have gathered video surveillance from local homes and businesses. Police believe that the suspects had been in the area some time prior waiting for Hamdi Zakarie to exit his house. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400.
Update November 17th
TPS have announced that a 27-year-old Cjay Hobbs was arrested today and charged with the murder of Hamdi Zakarie.
Investigators also believe he is responsible for two other homicides – Dimarjio Jenkins, who was fatally shot in the Entertainment District (#30/2020), and Dante Sebastian Andreatta, 12 who was shot while grocery shopping with his mom (#62/2020)
Inspector Hank Idsinga said, “This has been an extensive investigation which has led us all the way to Halifax to find 27-year-old Cjay Hobbs who we allege was the getaway driver in all three homicides”.
