Toronto police responded to several callers reporting multiple gunshots heard in the area of Vanderhoof Ave & Research Rd on June 9th at approximately 7:30pm.
Police located two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds, one victim was rushed to hospital on an emergency run where he died of his injuries. The second victim is expected to survive.
Update June 10th
Toronto police have identified the victim as Maaz Jogiyat, 20, of Toronto. It has been reported that a group of people were sitting in a parked vehicle when the suspects approached in a vehicle and started shooting at the parked vehicle. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored 4-door SUV and was last seen northbound on Brentcliffe Road towards Eglinton Avenue East.
Anyone who had contact with the victim, earlier that day, is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400.
Update June 27th
Toronto police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Maviya Tahir, 18, of Toronto. He is described as 5’10”, 150 lbs., with a light complexion. Tahir is wanted for:
1) First Degree Murder
2) Attempt Murder
He is believed to be armed, violent, and dangerous. If located, do not approach. Call 9-1-1 immediately.
Update September 24th
On September 22, 2020, York Regional Police Service arrested Maviya Tahir, 18, of Toronto. Tahir has been charged with First Degree Murder in the death of Maaz Jogiyat.
