An inmate at a British Columbia prison, Therae Racette-Beaulieu, has been charged with second-degree murder following a deadly fight in a cafeteria.
The victim, Christopher Braun, was fatally injured in the altercation on December 15, 2024.
Police report that several inmates attacked Braun, and three others face assault charges. Additionally, Theodore Anderson, Michael Okemow and Joseph Goulet were all charged with assault, IHIT said.
According to City News: RCMP officers responded to the incident at the Kent Institution in Agassiz, B.C., after it was reported by the Correctional Service of Canada.
Along with Braun’s death, one other inmate required hospitalization, while two others suffered minor injuries.
All four charged inmates are in custody awaiting court appearances. Racette-Beaulieu was previously sentenced to 18 years in 2019 for attempted murder and other crimes in Manitoba.
