Update: Victim identified and new charges laid – The death of a woman found in a Vaughan fire is being investigated as a homicide

York Regional Police were alerted to assist Vaughan Fire and Rescue Services for a structure fire in the area of Parktree Drive and Lucena Crescent on September 23rd at 7:45pm.

On arrival police located an unresponsive female victim inside the residence. She was rushed to hospital where she died of her injuries.

Investigators are appealing to anyone with information to please come forward, including witnesses or anything with video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area.

Update Sept 29th
The victim has been identified as Naheed ASKARYAR, 64, of Vaughan. A post-mortem examination was conducted and the cause of death has been confirmed as stab wounds. The victim’s husband had been charged with First Degree Murder Arson Endangering Life, however, the charges previously laid against Mohammad ASKARYAR were withdrawn on September 29, 2022. 

York Regional Police announced that as a result of new information from the community, investigators uncovered additional evidence that led to the arrest of Ahmad Shekeb ASKARZADA, 43, on September 29, 2022. He was charged with First Degree Murder and Arson Endangering Life.
