The death of Shawn Johnnie in Whitehorse is being investigated as a homicide

Police say Shawn Johnnie, 39, of Whitehorse had been transported from Whitehorse General Hospital, to Vancouver hospital with severe injuries on September 12th. Mr Johnnie died of his injuries later that day.

An autopsy was conducted on September 14th, at Vancouver General Hospital. Autopsy results revealed the death of Johnnie was a homicide.

Anyone who may have seen or had contact with Mr. Johnnie in the days leading up to his death on September 12th, is asked to contact RCMP at 867-667-5555.

Chelsey Tegan Bien dies after an assault in Whitehorse

Whitehorse police responded to report of an assault at a building on Lewes Boulevard around 12:30 am, on  February 26th.

Chelsey Tegan Bien, 25, of Kwanlin Dün First Nation died of her injuries. An autopsy was performed and revealed the cause of death to be a homicide.

Lynzee Harriott Silverfox, 20,  of Pelly Crossing was arrested by police on March 8th and charged with second degree murder.

Update – 25 year old BC man shot to death in Porter Creek Yukon

Whitehorse RCMP responded to a reported shooting in Porter Creek, at the area of Alaska Highway and Wann Road on September 20th at approximately 6:40pm.

Police said two vehicles were involved in the incident. Police said the vehicle driven by the victim was in close proximity to what they believe was a red pick up truck. The person in the red truck fired several times injuring the driver of the other vehicle, before fleeing the scene.

The 25 year old victim was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries on September 21st.

Update October 8th
Police have identified the victim as Mohamed Nagiel Saddek Nagem 25. No arrests have been made at this time. Investigators are urging any witnesses to contact police at 667-5555, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.


Clayton Benoit death deemed a homicide in Whitehorse

Police said 51 year old Clayton Benoit was rushed to Whitehorse General Hospital by Emergency Medical Services on August 30th at around 11:30am.

Police said Benoit died later that day as a result of his injuries.

An autopsy conducted on September 5th in Vancouver revealed the death of Benoit to be a homicide. Police have not released the cause of death at this time.

Adam Cormack found dead near the Alaska Highway

Yukon RCMP were called to the Alaska Highway west of Ibex Valley on June 28th just before 6:30pm on report of a body.

Police have identified the victim as 25 year old Adam Cormack of Whitehorse. The cause of death has not been released at this time.

Edward James Penner, 20, is facing a first degree murder charge in connection to the death.

Update Charges Laid – Greg Alvin Dawson, 45, was found dead on April 6 found dead in Whitehorse, Foul play hasn’t been ruled out

On April 6th RCMP were called to a home in the Riverdale area of Whitehorse on report of an unresponsive male.

Greg Alvin Dawson, 45, was found dead. An autopsy was completed, and police said foul play cannot be ruled out at this time.

Update October 17th 2019
Yukon RCMP arrested Connie Peggy Thorn, a 50-year-old Whitehorse woman, on October 16th, 2019 in connection with the April 6, 2017 death of 45-year-old Greg Dawson. Thorn has been charged with second degree murder.

Whitehorse homicide victim identified as Matthew Devellano

RCMP responded to a call at around 10 pm October 7th,  on Stan McCowan Place on reports of gunshots. Police found Matthew Devellano 32, outside of a home, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Devellano was rushed to hospital where he died from his injuries that same night.

Police don’t have any suspects at this time, however witnesses said they saw a dark coloured minivan fleeing the scene.

Christopher Brisson found dead on Miles Canyon Road

Christopher Brisson’s body found near Whitehorse’s Miles Canyon September 1st. Brisson, 25, was reported missing to the RCMP by a family member on August 29th.

RCMP are treating the death as suspicious, and it is under investigation by police.

Darryl Steven Sheepway, 38 has been arrested and charged in connection to the death of Brisson.
