Toronto Homicide #8 – Tesfa Welsh-Hope shot to death outside of a townhouse complex

Toronto police responded to a call for a shooting at 21 Bergamot Avenue, on February 13th at approximately 10:50pm.

Police arrived to find Tesfa Welsh-Hope, 28, of Toronto, suffering from gunshot wounds, on the ground outside of the building. Welsh-Hope was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Police are searching for a suspect who has been described as a male, wearing a dark-coloured, hooded jacket. He was last seen fleeing the area, running southbound along a pathway toward 11 Bergamot Avenue

Update March 20th
Kyle Dias, 19, was arrested in Nanimo BC on March 15th in relation to the murder of Tesfa Welsh-Hope. He is being transferred back to Toronto on March 20th. Dias is facing a second-degree murder charge.

Parental Abduction leads to the homicide of 11-year-old Riya Rajkumar in Brampton

Peel police were alerted at approximately 7:00pm by the Mother of Riya Rajkumar, 11, that her daughter had not been returned to her home by her father 41-year-old, Roopesh Rajkumar on February 14th. Riya was out with her father, celebrating her birthday.

Police said Roopesh made comments indicating he was going to harm himself and his daughter. An amber alert was issued at 11:36pm announcing the abduction and that police were searching for Roopesh Rajkumar who was driving a silver Honda Civic, last seen Eastbound on the 401.

Officer Mooken said that shortly after the amber alert was announced, Riya was found dead inside her father’s home. A member of the public spotted Roopesh in the Honda Civic in Orillia Ontario and alerted police. Police said Roopesh is facing a charge of first-degree murder in relation to the death of his daughter.

Update, February 21st
Roopesh Rajkumar died from a self inflicted gunshot wound on Wednesday February 20, 2019 while a patient at the trauma centre.

Toronto Homicide #7 – Dean Howlett, shot to death on Lawrence Avenue East

Toronto police responded to a report of gunshots at 4110 Lawrence Avenue East, on February 12th at approximately 2:50pm.

Police arrived at the scene to find Dean Howlett, 25, of Whitby suffering from serious injuries in the stairwell of the building. Howlett was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Peel Police Homicide team investigating after a 74-year-old woman was found dead in a home

Emergency crews were called to Rushton Crescent in Mississauga, on a medical call on February 12th at approximately 7:15am.

Police arrived to find a 74-year-old woman deceased. Police took a man into custody at the scene. Const. Akhil Mooken noted that investigators from Peel homicide and missing person’s bureau have taken carriage of the investigation .

Man Shot and Killed in Toronto’s Sixth Homicide

A man was shot and killed outside of a nightclub at 366 Queen Street East near Parliament. The killing occurred around 2 am on Friday. No identity has been released.

This is the sixth homicide overall in Toronto and the fourth male homicide. In 2018 there were 96 homicides in the city and 63 in 2017.

Update February 9th
Toronto police have identified the victim as Jaunoi Christian, 24, of Brampton. Police are searching for a suspect who was seen fleeing the scene. He is described as black, 6’0″, mid 30s, with a medium build. He was wearing a blue and white toque, dark-coloured jacket and blue jeans.

Waterloo Regional police investigating a homicide in Cambridge.

110 Biggest Canadian City Homicide Count, Homicide Rate PER 100,000 AND FULL YEAR 2018 Final Statistics.

Waterloo Regional Police were called to the Surrey Gardens townhouse complex at 241 Southwood Drive on January 31st at approximately 6:25am on report of an injured male.

Police arrived to find a male victim in distress. The victim was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Const. Andre Johnson said “Initial reports from witnesses have stated that they had heard gunshots earlier this morning,”

Homicide investigation launched into the death of Nicholas Samaroo in Pickering

Police said on  January 25, 2019 at approximately 7:30 a.m., they received a call from a woman who was walking her two dogs and came upon a deceased male in a wooded area.

The body of Nicholas Samaroo 24, was found with obvious signs of trauma near Liverpool Road North, about 150 meters north of Pine Ridge Secondary School.

Durham police’s homicide unit has taken over the case.

Police arrest and charge 2 people with second-degree murder – Ottawa police treating the disappearance of Susan Kublu-Iqqittuq as a homicide

Police said Susan Kublu-Iqqittuq, 37, was last seen in the area of Elgin Street and Laurier Avenue on January 10th at 10:45am.

On January 25th police stated in a press release the Ottawa Police Major Crime Unit is now investigating the missing person file of Susan Kuplu as a homicide.

One person who has not been identified has been placed in police custody and will be appearing in court January 26th .

Update January 29th
Lennese Kuplu, 18, of Ottawa, with second-degree murder and indignity to a human body in relation to the homicide of Susan Kuplu. Ottawa police arrested Dwight Brown, 28, on January 27th. Brown has been charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a body in relation to the Susan Kuplu homicide. 

Toronto Homicide #5 – Hanh “Hana” Nguyen stabbed to death

Toronto police and paramedics were called to a home on Mould Avenue, in the area of Jane Street and St. Clair Avenue, at around 6 a.m on January 24th.

First responders arrived to find two victims in the casement of the home. The female victim was pronounced at the scene and the male victim remains in hospital for treatment.

Police have not released the identity of the victim or if an arrest has been made. More information will be added as it becomes available.

Update January 25th
Police have identified the victim as Hanh “Hana” Nguyen, 41, of Toronto. The man found suffering from a stab wound has been identified as Austin Le, 40, of Toronto. He has been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder.

Cameron Gardiner, charged in Collingwood Ontario double homicide.

The Blue Mountains OPP said an altercation took place at a residence at Georgian Blue housing complex on January 22, at approximately 1:30am that resulted in two deceased individuals.

The victims have not been identified as police are waiting on next of kin notification.

Cameron Gardiner, 57, of Collingwood has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder.  Police believe that there was a third person accompanied the two deceased, that person has not been identified by police.
