DeShane Taylor fatally shot in Newmarket

York Regional Police were called to a residence on Colter Street, on October 4th at approximately 9:00pm on report of a shooting.

Police and paramedics arrived to find a 26-year-old male and a 23-year-old female in front of the residence suffering from gunshot wounds. The female victim was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the male victim, DeShane Taylor, was also sent to the hospital where he died of his injuries.

Police are searching for two male suspects who fled the scene in a dark coloured sedan. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865

Alyssa Lightstone, shot to death in Newmarket

York Regional Police were called to an apartment located at 75 Huron Heights Drive in Newmarket on July 21st at 7:20am.

On arrival police located 20-year-old Alyssa Lightstone of the town of Richmond Hill suffering from obvious signs of trauma. Lightstone was pronounced deceased at the scene from a gunshot wound.

On Monday July 23rd, Ali Nadderi of the town of Richmond Hill turned himself into police at approximately 2:30am. Nadderi has been charged with second degree murder.

Cody Gionet Dies of a gunshot wound in Newmarket

York Region Police were called to a home in the area of Sheldon Avenue in Newmarket at approximately 9:50pm on October 21st on a weapons complaint.

Police arrived at the scene to find Cody Gionet 30,  suffering from a gunshot wound. Gionet was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police arrested Travis Whitman 20, on October 22nd. Whitman has been charged with second degree murder.

Update November 17th.                                                              Cheikh Ngom, 18, of Toronto, has been charged with first degree murder in relation to the death of Cody Gionet. Ngom made his first court appearance on November 16th.

Newmarket man Mario Wint charged in death of 2-year-old son.

A 29-year-old Newmarket father is accused of killing his two-year-old son, York Regional Police said.

Police said they received a call regarding “an injured person” at a home on Longford Dr., near Yonge St. and Davis Dr., around 2:20 p.m. on Jan 23.

“Officers arrived on scene and located a two-year-old boy who was not breathing,” Const. Laura Nicolle said. “The child was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”

Homicide detectives have been investigating the toddler’s death since then they arrested his dad, she said.

Mario Wint, 29, faces a charge of second-degree murder.
