Michael Fournier charged with manslaughter in the overdose death of an inmate at Maplehurst Correctional Complex

Halton Regional Police Service responded to the Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton, on a report of six inmates who had apparently overdosed on drugs on May 7th.

Police said 5 of the 6 inmates were taken to hospital for treatment. The 6th inmate died by the consumption of fentanyl and carfentanil.

After a lengthy investigation, police have charged Michael Fournier, 30, of Cambridge with Manslaughter, Criminal negligence causing death, and Trafficking of a Schedule I substance.

Former inmate charged in assault causing death

Emmanuel Blowes-Serrata 21, a former inmate of the Maplehurst correctional facility in Milton, was arrested at his home September 28th, and charged with manslaughter in the May 14th death of an inmate.

Police said Blowes-Serrata assaulted the un-named inmate at the correctional facility on May 5. The inmate was transferred to hospital where he died on May 14.

A man with the same name and age as Emmanuel Blowes-Serrata was linked to the beating death of Madad Kenyi in 2015, however he maintained his innocence in the case.
