Saskatchewan: 14-year-old Chase Althouse the victim of a suspected murder-suicide in Candle Lake

Saskatchewan RCMP responded to a 911 report of a male who had been shot inside a residence located on Industrial Drive in Candle Lake on September 12th just before 10:00pm.

Smeaton, Nipawin and Prince Albert RCMP and EMS arrived at the scene to find 14-year-old Ronald Chase Wesley Althouse, with apparent gunshot wounds. The teen was declared deceased at the scene by Paramedics. A Gofundme page has been set up to help cover the cost of funeral expenses.

Police said ” investigation determined a 49-year-old male suspect, who was armed with a firearm, was assaulting a female occupant of the residence when the other occupants of the residence intervened.” The victim was shot during this altercation. Another person in the house was able to disarm the 49-year-old shooter before he fled the scene.

According to reports, the boy’s mother Pamela Althouse was the victim of the attack and was in a relationship with the shooter.

The investigation into the whereabouts of the shooter revealed the 49-year-old male suspect was believed to be in another residence located on Steen Place in Candle Lake. At approximately 6:00 am on September 13th, police located the suspect deceased inside the residence with an apparent gunshot wound, that appeared to have been self-inflicted.
