Strathcona County RCMP responded to a vehicle fire near Township Road 530 and Range 221 in Sherwood Park, Alta on Sept. 15.

Police said Human remains were been located inside the burnt vehicle, and the death has been deemed suspicious. The victim was identified as Vanessa Silva, age 29, of Edmonton.

An autopsy has been ordered and will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Anyone with information is asked contact the Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741.

Update
On May 6, 2022, members of the RCMP K-Division Major Crimes unit arrested 25-year-old Cordell Kennedy for the murder. He has been charged with one count of First Degree Murder. 

Update on Feb. 7, 2023, RCMP issued an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Bith Gattang Chuol. Chuol has been charged with:

· First-Degree-murder

· Kidnapping

· Breaking and entering

· Extortion
