Owen Smoke charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death and Manslaughter in the death of a cyclist in Long Plain First Nation

Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) responded to a motor vehicle versus pedestrian collision, on Long Plain First Nation on March 31st at approximately 1:00 am.

RCMP said a 21-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and pinned underneath. First responders were able to get him out and into an ambulance/. The victim succumbed to his injuries while en route to hospital.

The investigation led officers to determine that the death was a result of homicide and Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services has taken carriage of the investigation.

44-year-old Owen Smoke of Long Plain First Nation, was remanded into custody, and was charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death and Manslaughter.
