Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of gunshots at Market Crossing on May 13th at approximately 8:35pm. Upon police attendance, a man was located suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police arrived to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life saving efforts the man was pronounced deceased. Two others a man and a woman who are believed to be associates  with the deceased, suffered from gunshot wounds and are recovering in hospital.

Update: The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Jaskeert Kalkat, who was known to police and involved in the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

RCMP said “Based on the investigative theory in this initial phase, this does not appear to be a random act”. Anyone with information regarding this investigation can call the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448)
