Montreal police responded to a 911 call at an apartment on Birnam Street, on July 19th at approximately 5:00pm.
Police arrived to find a 32-year-old Rajinder Prabhneed Kaur unconscious, and suffering from upper body injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. The couple’s child was in the unit at the time of the murder but was unharmed.
Police are searching for Navdeep Ghotra, 30, the victim’s husband. According to CTV News Ghotra’s car was found near the Lachapelle Bridge, spanning Rivière des Prairies between Montreal and Laval. Police believe he jumped into the water.
Update July 25th
New details have emerged regarding the homicide of Rajinder Prabhneed Kaur. According to tvanouvelles, Ghotra allegedly confessed his crime to family members in India during a video call where he showed them the injuries inflicted on his wife. A panicked relative then contacted local police in the Punjab region when then contacted Montreal police.
Police arrested Ghotra back in May of 2021 after a case of domestic violence against his wife. Ghotra was charged with criminal harassment and has a court appearance in October.
Update July 30th
Montreal police recovered the body of Navdeep Ghotra from the Rivière des Prairies on Montreal’s north shore on July 28th. Police said he was found near a Hydro-Québec dam.
