Update: Local Kamloops Lawyer Rogelio Butch Bagabuyo, 54, has been accused of placing the remains of Thompson Rivers University instructor Mohd Abdullah in a plastic bin and has subsequently been charged with one count of interfering with a dead body. He is facing a charge of first-degree murder.
Update October 7th 2025
The case is unfolding in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver, where Bagabuyo stands trial for first-degree murder. However, his legal team is pushing for a manslaughter conviction, arguing the killing wasn’t planned.
Meanwhile, prosecutors allege a complex web of financial betrayal, forgery, and a calculated attempt to cover up the crime. The Crown alleges Bagabuyo embezzled over $774,000 from Abdullah’s trust account, spending it on personal luxuries. Prosecutors say Bagabuyo planned the murder: shutting off security cameras, purchasing plastic wrap and a storage bin, and forging documents.
