Calgary police responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the area of 34 Street and 138 Avenue on Oct. 16, 2024, at approximately 11:32 a.m.

On arrival police located a severely injured 32-year-old male in critical condition suffering from an injury from an edged weapon. the victim who has been identified as Aaron Staszko, was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A gofundme campaign has been created to help the family with funeral expenses.

Michael Ferreira, 33, was arrested later that day, and charged with second-degree murder. Investigators said Ferreira is also facing charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats in relation to his interactions with a 35-year-old woman during the initial disturbance incident. All three people were known to one another.
